Arcadia's Waste Water Treatment Plant was started in the early 1980's. It serves about 3,500 people and consists of two ponds and a sixty acre spray field.

The staff is composed of two full-time employees, Plant Supervisor Joe Smith and Mike Woods. They are not only concerned with the operation of the plant, but show their pride in the outward appearance of the buildings and grounds.

This plant can treat 500,000 Gallons of water per day. (.5 MGD)

Joe Smith holds certifications in both Class IV Waste Water Treatment and Waste Water Collections as well as Class IV Water  Production, Water Distribution, and Water Treatment.


In 2007, Arcadia's Wastewater Treatment Plant was named "Wastewater System of the Year for Northern Louisiana" by the Louisiana Rural Water Association.

In 2005, Joe Smith was named Waste Water Operator of the year for North Louisiana by the Louisiana Rural Water Association.

Under Mayor Eugene Smith's supervision, an upgrade was made in 2003 consisting of two new pumps, new field pipe and sprinkler system, and two new aerators.
